Promotion Campaign

"Hong Kong Clean PC Day 2008 – GenerationS" Promotion Campaign

According to a survey conducted by the Census and Statistics Department in 2007, youngsters aged from 10 to 24 had the highest rate of having used Internet services. More than 98.5 percents of them were computer and/or Internet users. The youngsters are using the Internet services mainly for communication with others, searching for / downloading information online or for offline digital entertainment. Surfing the Internet and use of computer have integrated with their daily life.

Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) and Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) continue to co-organise the information security promotion campaign. This year, we target the "Youth" as our main audience. We hope to enhance the understanding of youngsters of information security related topics and help them develop a proper attitude in using Internet so as to prevent themselves from becoming victims of cyber attacks.

A number of events covering a wide range of users including students, teachers or the general public have been arranged and organized to promote the campaign as summarized below.

5 Steps to clean your PC On-going process and continuous effort are required to protect computers from cyber attacks. Internet users are suggested to complete tasks in "5 steps to clean your PC" regularly (e.g. once every week) so as to enjoy surfing the Internet in a safer environment.
Ceremony The campaign for year 2008 was kicked off on 28 November 2007 and wrapped up in the Press Briefing session held on 20 November 2008. Details of the events can be found at the "Ceremony" section.
School Visit Programme We have teamed up with the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc. (ISC)2 and Professional Information Security Association (PISA) to visit schools and organise information security related seminars for students and teachers. Details of our school visits are available at the "School Visit Programme" section.
Seminars and Talks We are grateful to have information security professionals voluntarily to be our InfoSec Ambassadors and share their experiences with students, teachers and the public in various seminars and talks. More details can be found at the "Seminars and Talks" section.
Publications and Media Programmes Different posters and leaflets with guiding principles were designed and published to raise the awareness of Internet users on information security.
