To further our education effort to the general public on information security, an information security awareness promotion campaign, "Three Smart Tips to Clean PC" campaign, is jointly organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) and the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF). In order to help the general public build up the habit of regularly cleaning up their PCs and minimise the risk of being attacked by computer virus or hackers, we have organised a "Hong Kong Clean PC Day" on 25 November 2005, the public are invited to participate in this event by simply cleaning their PC with the following three smart tips:
Scan with anti-virus software
Protect with personal firewall
Apply security patches regularly
Other Promotion Events
In order to deepen the impression of our message, a slogan, Three Smart Tips to Clean Your PC , is designed for this campaign. The other promotion events for this campaign are listed as follows:
To extend our reach to different districts, roving exhibitions throughout the territory are organised with the first one commenced on 12 August 2005 . An exhibition booth has also been set up in the Junior Police Call (JPC) Summer Camp, which was held between 13 August and 19 August.
An exhibition booth and a promotion panel for the "Hong Kong Clean PC Day" will be set up in the World SME Expo to be held between 21 - 23 November 2005.
A series of "Police Report" has been produced with a focus on how the three smart tips can help protect PCs.
Publicity leaflets are also designed and distributed to various parties including community facilities, libraries and schools, and through various events such as public exhibitions, conferences and seminars.
Two identical one-day seminars on "Cleaning Your PC" have been organised with the morning session focusing on "PC and Internet Security" and the afternoon session focusing on "Email Security and Anti-spamming".
Teaching materials in the form of CDs for students has been distributed to primary and secondary schools in September 2005.
