As technologies advance, mobile computing has been changing people’s daily lives. Mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and portable notebook computers are becoming commonplace. They are capable of storing and manipulating a large amount of data and possess integrated functions including a mobile phone, digital camera, radio, audio and video player, GPS and other gadgets. Users are enabled to share information and knowledge, connect to other people, entertain themselves and do their works anytime and anywhere.
Along with the convenient use of mobile devices, users should also aware of the associated securities concerns along with the tiny devices. There are a wide variety of related threats and targeted at mobile devices. The underlying reasons are simply that the mobile devices are treasure of sensitive information about users and the companies they work for. A stolen or lost mobile devices can leak sensitive data. A malware infected device can lead to hidden use of premium services, or cause finanical loss in online services such as online banking.
To promote the user awareness of associated risks when using mobile services, Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) and Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT) continue to co-organize the information security promotion campaign with Mobile Security as one of the main themes giving the rising concern on the use of mobile devices . By organizing different events, we aim to enhance user awareness on the potential security risks of using mobile devices and provide knowledge to protect the devices.
